The collection of the All Saints Royal Hospital is a "founding" collection of the Museum of Lisbon, insofar as it was found during an excavation led by Irisalva Moita, former director of the museum.

The complex history of this vanished hospital is bound up in the evolution of the Rossio square, the neighbouring Convent of São Domingos, the 1755 earthquake, and the relocation of the hospital to the Convent of Santo Antão-o-Novo (today São José Hospital).
