Lisbon was the largest national centre for the production and consumption of ceramic objects. The 19th and 20th centuries saw the birth of many factories that worked alongside artists using modern production techniques.
Open to different preferences in terms of style and taste, Lisbon ceramics had a strong presence in various notable collections and were at one time in line for a dedicated municipal museum that never saw the light of day.
The ceramics collection of the Museum of Lisbon is the pretext for a guided tour with Mário Nascimento, investigator of the Museum of Lisbon, around the ceramics that still characterise the city to this day.
