2021 witnessed the birth of one of the most interesting projects on the current musical scene: Expresso Transatlântico. This Lisbon band brings together Gaspar Varela on Portuguese guitar, Sebastião Varela on electric guitar, and Rafael Matos on drums. The group released their eponymous debut EP at the end of last year, receiving high praise from audiences at home and abroad.

It was between Lisbon and the United States that the group's first ideas were born. Gaspar Varela was on tour with Madonna, while his two companions sent him the first "chords" on that transatlantic trip.

With a sound influenced by the rhythms of popular Portuguese, Brazilian and African music, the debut work of these young musicians, featuring six songs, is the soundtrack of a Lisbon with a view to the world. The trio's internationalisation began at the Opening Ceremony of WOMEX 2022.

After the concert, at 9.30pm, the film Bicycle Thieves, by Vittorio Di Sica, will be screened.

In a local partnership between Museu de Lisboa, Junta de Freguesia de Alvalade and Alvalade Cineclube, the concert and the screening of cinema classics in the garden of the Museu de Lisboa - Palácio Pimenta are part of the cultural programme of Junta de Freguesia de Alvalade, Alval'arte.
