Opening of the exhibition A gesture strangely repeated

Unaccomplished projects in Lisbon's Roman Theatre

17 May 202318h – 19h30

Free admission

«A gesture strangely repeated» is a quote from the architect Cassiano Branco in an interview to the newspaper Diário de Lisboa in the 1960s.  It regards the discouragement already felt at the time about the absence of any measure to enhance the value of Lisbon's Roman Theatre, a unique monument in the national context.

In this exhibition we present the projects thought for this site, from the 18th century to the present day, the majority of which, resulted in a utopian universe.

As Cassiano Branco, we repeat the strangeness and ask what future is intended for the only Roman theatre excavated on national territory built in the remote 1st century AD.
