Sea Breeze: Lisbon and the River Tagus, 1850-2014

14 Jul 2014 — 19 Dec 201410h – 18h

This exhibition took visitors on a journey through more than 150 years of change on the riverside in Lisbon, from Xabregas to Santos. It was curated by José Sarmento de Matos as part of a partnership between the City Museum, now the Museum of Lisbon, and the Instituto de Dinâmica do Espaço (IDE - FCSH/NOVA), Lisbon City Council and EGEAC.

Comprising mostly photographs and documents, the exhibition was divided into six sections (The Explorers’ Docks, Terreiro do Paço, Boats of the Tagus, Cais do Sodré, Armoury and Lisbon Fantasies) to reveal the Lisbon that existed 150 years ago between Xabregas and Santos, including the recent outcome of the redevelopment of Ribeira das Naus, completed in July 2014.
