As the city which held a monopoly on the slave trade throughout the Portuguese empire for more than two and a half centuries, the model of Lisbon from before the 1755 earthquake allows us to identify some of the most important places in the history of slavery in the world.
Through multimedia resources and the collections of several museums, including the Museum of Lisbon, this visit allows visitors to better understand who the slaves were and how enslaved African communities lived in Lisbon from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
