Platter

CIFKA, Wenceslau (1811-1883)

c.1870-1883

Platter

MC.CER.0281

This decorative piece is strongly influenced by the Renaissance models by French potter Bernard Palissy (1510-1589), echoing the eclectic, revivalist tastes of romanticism. According to some scholars, Cifka represented the link in the chain between Palissy’s animal forms and the items made in Caldas by Manuel Cipriano Gomes and the Bordalo family.
