Presentation of the magazine SCAENA IV

25 Jan 202318h – 19h30

Free admission

The fourth volume of the magazine SCAENA, edited by the Museum of Lisbon – Roman Theatre, is, for the first time, an issue open to all who felt the need to participate and thus features no set topic.

The issue’s eight texts on varied subjects by a range of authors focus on themes as diverse as the importance to the city of the river and the sea, its supply of ice, and studies in ceramics and archaeological interventions in the area surrounding the theatre.

While not dealing specifically with the city of Lisbon, the issue also features a translation of the Charter written in 1998 by the Council of Europe on its recommendations on the use of old performance venues, an issue which is relevant to the Roman Theatre and other monuments.

This issue closes with an interesting article on a remarkably passionate figure of Lisbon in the late 19th and early 20th century, Genoveva de Lima Mayer Ulrich, also known as Veva de Lima, whose eccentricity marked the city’s intellectual environment.

In short, another collection of studies put forward in this new year by the Museum of Lisbon – Roman Theatre, continuing a path of dissemination of scientific knowledge about our beloved city.
