Jorge Colaço (1868-1942) was a multifaceted artist in the first half of the twentieth century. He was an oil painter, illustrator, caricaturist and tile painter. He worked at Fábrica de Sacavém and Fábrica Lusitânia in Lisbon.
Colaço produced around a thousand tile panels, thirteen of this alluding to episodes of the life of Saint Anthony and to some of the miracles attributed to him, such as the "Apparition of the Child Jesus to Saint Anthony", the "Preaching to the fishes" and "The miracle of the pitcher", among others.
The exhaustive surveying of his work has identified 33 panels with religious themes in different places in Portugal. Of these sites, 13 are religious places such as public and private churches and chapels, six are placed on four private graves, and the rest are placed on public and private properties.
His work alluding to Saint Anthony is present in nine places in Portugal: five religious/public buildings and four private buildings.
