One theme, two museums. Musealogues is a cycle of visits which aim to create a dialogue between the various perspectives we each may have of a single theme, depending on the context in which we find ourselves.

The theme of this visit is modern Lisbon between the 15th and 18th centuries, a period in which Lisbon was transformed from a peripheral capital into an important nerve centre for the new transcontinental connections between Europe and the world. The port of Lisbon was a gateway to and from the Mediterranean, central and northern Europe, and Africa, Asia and America, connecting new territories, art, objects and people.

From the brightest lights to the darkest shadows and fog, modern Lisbon experienced everything: pogroms, earthquakes, slavery, plagues, utopias, markets, visionaries and reactionaries, Catholic reforms, new royal dynasties, hospitals, charities and much more.
