The transition from hunter-gatherers to the first emergence of a city following trade contact with people from the eastern Mediterranean constitutes a period of around 35,000 years.
This extended period is explored in the first room of the Museum of Lisbon – Palácio Pimenta through artefacts which demonstrate the evolution and technological capabilities of the first settlers of Lisbon.
The Museum invited João Luís Cardoso, Professor of Prehistory and Archaeology at the Open University of Lisbon, to help unveil the many stories about this obscure period of history.
