Model

There might be only a few models among the collections of the Museum of Lisbon, but they constitute a set of works that are key to understanding the history of the city and the museum itself. Besides the large model of Lisbon prior to the 1755 Earthquake, created by Lisbon scholar Gustavo de Matos Sequeira (1880–1962), the museum houses reproductions reconstructions of iconic buildings of Lisbon past (the former Convento do Carmo, the Church of Saint Anthony and the Roman Theatre), an unfinished model of the Baixa district executed by the firefighter Luís Caetano de Carvalho (1863–1933), and a set of models from Expo ‘98.
