About the author

Gonçalo M. Tavares is the author of a vast body of work that has been translated and is being published in more than sixty countries. His language breaks with Portuguese lyrical traditions and his subversion of literary genres make him one of the most innovative European writers today. Recently, his Le Quartier (The Neighbourhood) received the prestigious Prix Laure-Bataillon 2021, awarded to the best book translated in France. He has been a finalist for the Oceanos Prize six times and honoured three times. The New Yorker said that, like Kafka and Beckett, Gonçalo M. Tavares shows how "logic can effectively serve madness as well as reason."
