The equestrian statue of King José facing the Tagus has dominated Lisbon's main square, Praça do Comércio, for over two centuries.

Since its inauguration in 1775, the sculptor Joaquim Machado de Castro has been linked to several notable artworks gracing the capital.

A visit to discover the life and work of one of the leading Portuguese sculptors of the second half of the 18th century.
